Kittens is one of LA’s iconic DJs, pushing party sounds forward as a mainstay at the livest club nights and festivals, all the while fostering an inclusive creative community via workshops and personal activism. Now, she levels up as a producer and artist with her debut solo release, Zanan & On. The title track boasts Kittens' heavy duty percussion and an equally powerful message: “Zanan” means woman in Farsi and was also the name of the only womens’ magazine in Iran, which the government sadly shut down. So Zanan & On to me is kind of like a more inclusive version of ‘The Future Is Female,’ meant to empower women and other people who feel they don’t belong.” Meanwhile, flipside banger “To Light” features rising NY star Flipp Dinero and Kollision of ATL’s Quality Control over an energetic, hybrid beat with claws to spare.
